Today I want to talk about an extension that could be added to your business to create rather “simple” residual income for you.

I’m talking about Information Products (created by you) that teach others all the knowledge you’ve acquired throughout the years of being in business for yourself.

When marketed effectively, information products can bring you nice steady flow of residual income while building instant credibility for you and your business. Not to mention the “Expert Status” you can achieve because you have your own product. Think of the credibility someone gains just because they create a book. You see it all the time on TV.

What is an Information Product? To me, any of the following could classify as an information product:

-E-books

-Coaching or Mentorship Programs

-Continuity Programs -Membership Training Site

-Tip or Training DVD/CD of the Month

-Monthly Newsletter -Home Study Course

-Training Videos -Guide Books

…the list really goes on and the possibilities are endless.

Now, how can you create something like the above and apply it to your “offline” business?

Let’s say you are a successful Real Estate Agent. You could create a Membership Training Website that teaches other up and coming Real Estate Agents how to be successful. You could charge $17 or more a month for access to your Membership Site. Or you could offer online personal training to help people get in shape.

You could have a website built that has a “members only” area with training videos, articles and manuals that your members can study on a weekly basis. You can actually set a membership site up so that content is “drip fed” to your members on a weekly basis…just like taking a College Course online.

The best part about this is you can create “all” of the content up front before launching the site then your “pre created” content is drip fed to your members on a weekly basis. This is actually pretty simple to setup with membership site software and an autoresponder to automatically notify them of access to new content available to them on the site.

The training material could go on indefinetly (which means you’d be creating new content “forever”) or you could create a “Boot Camp” style membership site which has a set time period…like a College Course (which allows you to create a certain amount of content up front and the rest runs on auto pilot).

This could be applied to any business. Think about the service you offer to your clients. Can you streamline things by adding the option to receive that service online? (personal training, counseling, selling your physical products online etc.)

Aside from a membership site you can create an e-book. The e-book could be on a topic that would help your clients (How to Get Ripped Before Next Summer), or could be on a topic that would help others trying to break into the same business you are in (How to Market Your Handy Man Services).

All of this talk about creating Information Products is great but if you don’t have a solid Marketing Plan in place then it doesn’t matter how great your product is, no one will find it. The good news is there are many clever Online and Offline Marketing techniques you can use to advertise your Information Products effectively.
